Poland Unveils New 'San' Drone Defense System

Poland has unveiled a new €2 billion defense system, 'San', designed to counter enemy drones, which will be the largest of its kind in Europe. Announced by Polish State Secretary for Defense Cezary Tomczyk, the system is named after a river in southeastern Poland and will be deployed along the country's northern and eastern borders. It is set to become operational this summer, integrating into Poland's broader air and missile defense network. This initiative is part of a broader shift in Poland's military strategy, focusing on active deterrence against Russia's 'hybrid warfare,' which includes attacks on infrastructure, sabotage, and cyber warfare. In response to ongoing threats, Poland has also launched the 'Eastern Shield' project, a $2.5 billion initiative to build 700 km of high-tech fortifications, and deployed 10,000 troops to protect vital infrastructure. The 'San' system is the latest development in Poland's comprehensive approach to national security.
